About Diamond Heart Earrings
Since ancient times, the stylized heart shape has symbolized romantic love, passion, and all the things that make the physical heart in our chests – to which it bears only the slightest resemblance – beat faster. The origins of the heart symbol are shrouded in the mists of time, but various historians and anthropologists over the centuries have noted the distinctive double mounds’ resemblance to the female buttocks or breasts, the male reproductive arsenal and to the seed pods of Silphium, a type of fennel, that was commonly used as an effective natural birth control agent from the Bronze Age on.
Whatever its history, the heart shape has become a symbol of devotion that transcends culture, found in art, games, science (as the international emblem of cardiology) and even religious worship, the whole world over. Apart from the cross, no other symbol has such universal application.
Diamond heart earrings come in a wide variety of styles. While the diamonds can be set in the traditional yellow gold setting, the more contemporary look is diamonds set in white gold which tends to showcase the sparkle of the stones without reflecting a yellow cast.
Diamond heart earrings can be small studs, solid shapes or silhouettes set in baguette cut or small round channel-set stones. Often the diamonds may be accent pieces for other stones like emeralds, sapphires or rubies.
